                               About Biodiversity
Globally there is a perceived need to protect biodiversity  which could be defined as all natural habitats and the diverse species that depend on them. Biodiversity, which is in steep decline largely due to human activity, is important to us all, because it keeps our environment in balance, giving us our oxygen, water and food.

In every ecosystem living things form communities that interact with each other. These interactions, operating over millions of years have resulted in the beautiful, habitable world we live in today, and continue to provide essential services that keep our environment in balance, allowing humans to survive.
The Rio Convention on Biological Diversity took place in 1992 and the UK Government signed a treaty to provide a legal framework for biodiversity conservation.
The UK Biodiversity Action Plan (B.A.P) was launched in 1994 with:
391 species action plans;
45 habitat action plans;
162 local B.A.P.s with targeted actions.
