Harvest Mouse: Distribution

Harvest Mice in Barnsley have mainly been recorded in wetland areas, in Barnsley, often in Reed Canary Grass (Phalaris arundceina) in marshy areas and alongside ditches and dikes. However this may be because most recording by searching for nests has been in these areas.

They may also be found in other areas with tall grasses such as road side verges, field margins and hedgerow banks and rough grassland elsewhere. They have never been found in upland areas nor in fact west of the M1.
